Getting Ready for Hezekiah!!

Today is Monday the 16th of November, and in just 3 short days I'm scheduled to have my 8th blessing!! I'm getting a little nervous, but excited at the same time. I've been "nesting" these last couple of weeks ans I always like the way that makes me feel....closets cleaned out and reorganized, baby stuff washed and set up, cabinets cleaned out and reorganized for baby bottles and such. Just feels so good! I am however a little nervous about Thursday because we've never had a planned c-section and I'm not sure what to expect. The last time we went through this it wasn't exactly a pleasant experience. I'm pretty sure things will be different this time around but it's still different than what I'm used to.
I wonder a lot of things: I wonder how long I'll have to wait to hold him? How long until I can nurse him? How long will I be restricted in what I'm supposed to do? ( not that I usually follow that guide line ) but I'm thinking with the c-section you kinda have to a little more :) On top of the many questions swirling around in my brain about the actual c-section, I'm wondering how my little Obadiah is going to handle this...he hasn't been away from me for this amount of time since he's been released from the hospital....AHHH! He'll be in good hands, it's not that I don't trust those that will be watching him, it's just so new and different. What about the rest of my kids, how will they handle being away from me for 3 days? The older ones will hold it together but I know it still won't be easy for them. Nehemiah probably won't mind too much the first day but I'm worried about the second and third day. And even when I do get to come home I won't be back to my "normal" self. I just can't wait until this is done and I'm at home taking care of my "gang" again. Or maybe they'll be taking care of me! Guess we'll have to wait and see. Until then I'm leaving all of these "wonders and worries" with God, he seems to handle them better than I do anyway.

a poductive day

Saturday I took Elijah and Obadiah into Sarasota for their well checks. They had appointments at 9:00 and 9:20. So we get to the doctor's office, sign in, and go outside to wait (to avoid all of the germs) when the receptionist comes out and says "what are they here for today?"
Me- "well checks"
receptionist- just kinda looks at me and says"OK"
Me- "what's wrong?"
receptionist- "well their actually not on the schedule until next Saturday".
Me- "Are you kidding me?"
receptionist- "we'll work you guys in because I know you have a long drive to get here"
Me- "thank you but you guys look like your already really booked, we'll come back next Saturday"
receptionist-"if your sure"
Me-" yeah it was my mistake, we'll see you next week"

So after that mildy irritating event, the boys and I decide to go garage sailing! I still needed a couple of things for the baby, so I thought maybe we could find them at a yard sale. Sarasota had SO many yard sales on Friday, and I was able to get an infant car seat for $5.00 and a solid pinewood dining room table with 6 chairs for $50.00! It's huge and fits all of us comfortably!! WooHoo! I am so thankful for this table, we've been sitting either half in the living room and half in the dining room to eat or squished together at the table. So this is so exciting to me!
Elijah also got a few good deals. He got a razor scooter for $5.00, a basketball hoop with balls for $5.00, and a bow for .50! He decided that he really likes garage sales :)
All in all it turned out to be a good day!

What I'm thankful for today...

Today I'm thankful for:
My relationship with Jesus Christ
My children's laughter coming from the "school room" where they're supposed to be working :)
That it's still warm enough outside that my kids are going outside in shorts and t-shirts. {pants make SO much more laundry}
That Obadiah is learning to communicate in ways other than point and scream.
That I had a nice, big, ice cold, Pepsi for breakfast!
Paper towels- they're great replacements for wipes when you run out.
The different "quirks" that each of my kids have and how each of them, with they're "quirks", completes us as a family
My husband
and the fact that he still puts up with me during these last few months of pregnancy
because I know it's not always easy.
My planner-I'd be lost without it!
Well that's my list for today! What are you thankful for??

11-3-09

It is November 3, 2009, and it has been 8 months since I've logged into my blog. A lot has happened/changed in those 8 months!
We have bought a home and had the joy of moving. Honestly not my favorite thing to do with all of our "stuff".
The kids finished their school year at the public school! They were all so excited when school was out and begging me to home school them again! So we are full swing in to homeschooling the 6 oldest.
Obadiah has been discharged from both of his therapies and 2 of his specialist, Praise the Lord for that!! He is doing exceptionally well. And we are in awe daily at how far God has brought him. He truly is a miracle.
We have also found out that we are going to have 8 blessings! I am having a scheduled c-section on November 19Th, which is a completely new experience for me. Three of my seven children have been born at home, two at a birth center, and two at the hospital. Obadiah was born via c-section but it definitely wasn't planned. So this is a new and exciting. For the first time we actually "know" what day we'll be having our baby! BTW if our ultrasound is correct baby number 8 is a BOY, we're planning on naming him Hezekiah James.
Well I think that about catches me up on the big changes in our daily living. At least all I can think of at almost 2:00 a.m.
Hopfully I'll be a little more dilligent with this in the forth coming weeks.

public school

We have had to make a very hard decision concerning our 5 oldest children. We're sending them into the public school system...It may not seem like that big of a deal....but this is their first year in a public school, until last year they went to a small private school and last year I home schooled them. I had planned on continuing to home school until high school and then if they wanted to attend the high school they could, if not we'd go on with the homeschooling thing. BUT Obadiah threw a little bit of curve ball in my direction and so we had to figure something else out. Financially we couldn't send all 5 of them back to a private school and no one was jumping up and down to be "our teacher" for a year so that pretty much left us with one option. The public school system. All in all it has been a good experience. They have enjoyed being in the conventional school setting again. Making new friends, school lunches, field trips, and science projects. But they can't wait until next year when they can be home schooled again! They just make my little mommy heart melt. They really liked being home schooled. We did have fun and I got to know my kids a whole lot better during that year than I ever imagined possible. They probably think the same thing about me. This next school year will be a little more challenging because we do have Obadiah and he is a little go getter! He's getting into EVERYTHING and loving every minute of it. Although it may be a little more challenging I'm sure it will be just as rewarding as last year and I can't wait!

Home!!

It felt like it had been just about forever since I'd slept in my own bed. I was so thankful to be going home with my whole family. I really almost had to adjust to being in my own home again, isn't that kinda weird? Well this is where the fun begins...

Our first week at home really wasn't that much at home, we had a doctors appointment everyday during that first week...but we did get to sleep in our own beds at night!

When we were at home I was a mess...I was still getting comfortable having a special needs child, pumping breastmilk every 3 hours around the clock, feeding Obadiah every 3 hours around the clock, ( it took me about 30 minutes to pump and clean that stuff and it took an hour to put the breast milk through Obadiah's feeding tube and then I still had to clean that equiptment ) and some how still taking care of the other 6 kids. During those first few weeks I felt like all I was doing was hooking someone up to a pump or cleaning one :) I wish I knew how many times I hooked Obadiah up to the feeding pump and started the feeding only to come back an hour later to find the plug had popped out of his feeding tube and his whole feeding just went all over his bed. Grrrr....

Then there was the breathing treatments, which weren't too bad. And his oral meds, which had to be given through his tube, ended up on his clothes, carseat, or my lap too many times to count. I thought my other babies generated a lot of laundry, nothing compared to this kid :)

But we survived! We somehow, by the gace of God alone, made it through those first weeks. I'm not sure who fed my crew those first couple of weeks, sure hope they ate :) JK. We did have meals brought in by our church family and there's always frozen lasagna in the freezer. The kids and my husband did most of the house work. Mostly because I was so busy with darn pumps.

I realized just how wonderful my kids were through all of this. Not that I didn't know, I was just reminded I guess. Having gone through all of this they didn't complain, fuss, or get angry once.

And they had plenty of reasons to do so. They really gave up so much during those six weeks, we were supposed to be at home enjoying summer break, hanging out with friends, swimming, and playing outside. Not only this but there were days at a time that they would see us for literally 30 minutes in the morning before we went to the hospital. And of course looming above there heads was the fear that they might loose this baby brother that they hadn't even gotten to meet. My older children have since told me that they were afraid every time we came back from the hospital that we were going to tell them that he had passed away.

Sometimes I find myself thinking that it's not fair what my kids have gone through. What other 8 year old knows what a "flush" for a feeding tube is? How many 6 year olds say " mom, is his tube tucked " before picking their brother/sister up? Are there many 9 year olds that worry about their siblings SATS? But then I also realize my kids are stronger because of this, they are closer because of this, and they are more compassionate because of this. Would I change this if I could? Not in a million years....

We are, in part, who we are because of this!
